Find Your Voice, Hartford Public Library
pre-production work for a documentary video short. The documentary video (approximately 6 minutes) will contextualize a range of primary sources, include commentary from contemporaries of Reed and scholars, and illuminate the project’s civic literacy themes.
Find Your Voice, Hartford will feature narrative, audiovisual, and primary source content related to the four Historic Voices and the same for a series of Contemporary Voices, which will be added to the site on a regular basis. The interpretive content for each Historic and Contemporary Voice will be connected to an online collection of primary sources. The aim is to connect the stories of past individuals (Historic Voices), who engaged the civic issues of their times, to the work of present-day role models (Contemporary Voices) who have likewise found that literacy, understanding the city’s shared history, and creative expression are pathways to personal and community enrichment.
