Samantha Olschan is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist, designer, and educator.
Through a practice that merges analog and digital processes, she examines how images, text, and motion construct meaning, revealing the tension between technology, perception, and human emotion. Her work spans motion design, collage, animated film, mixed-media installation, and print to explore themes of language, identity, and resilience. Using fragmented text, layered imagery, and everyday iconography, she conveys complex narratives, challenging conventional views, questioning how we process and communicate experience in an era defined by accelerating media and machine learning.
Olschan’s art and design projects have been exhibited internationally, including presentations at the TSX Times Square Jumbotron (New York), GenAI Summit, ArtX Gallery (San Francisco), Gallery Omnibus (Dresden, Germany), eARTh Gallery (London, UK), TAG Gallery (Los Angeles), and The William Benton Museum of Art (Storrs, CT). Her professional collaborations include work with Boston Children’s Hospital, the U.S. House Select Committee on Economic Disparity, the Connecticut Bar Association, and other community-based documentary and educational initiatives.
Olschan's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Connecticut Art Directors Club, The Hollywood North Film Awards, the Black Maria Film & Video Festival, The UK Animation and Music Video Festival, and was selected to the Women in Art Prize 2024 Longlist (Emerging Artist Category). In 2025, Olschan was awarded an artist residency at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in Greece. Her work has been featured in exhibitions and screenings such as the PBS P.O.V. Series, The ShortList (PBS), Las Laguna Gallery, the Peninsula School of Art, New Haven International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Boston Underground Film Festival, Marblehead Film Festival, Tribeca Cinemas, the Gene Siskel Film Center, and WomenWhoDraw.com.
She is currently an Associate Professor of Motion Design & Animation in the Department of Digital Media & Design at the University of Connecticut, leading curriculum development, mentoring emerging artists, and fostering inclusive creative spaces. Her research and creative practice advocate for equitable representation and cross-disciplinary experimentation, positioning art and design as vital tools for reflection, empathy, and change.
